Smart Report Builder is an invaluable software application which allows users to easily build custom designed reports from information stored within a database. This ASP.NET control provides a flexible reporting solution for both Internet and Intranet applications which are supported by Microsoft SQL Server and other ADO.NET-compatible data providers on the back-end.

Only a basic understanding of data models is necessary to create report templates. Template authors select tables, columns and views, set the display order and aliases, as well as sort order and grouping with aggregate functions. Data filters allow authors to select different criteria for data extraction such as relationships, design-time, and run-time parameters.

To begin, users must select one of the available templates. Users then input run-time parameter values to generate an easy to read report. Reports are available in different formats such as PDF, HTML, XML and CSV Smart Report Builder also provides additional security; this can be enabled by report-level permissions for different individual users and user groups.

Integration with ASP.NET applications is simply completed by adding two tags to the server-side code. Style sheets may also be implemented to preserve the same look and feel as the main application. Users may also restrict access to specific databases as needed.
